Hey guys, I’m in the market for a sprinter van. And due to my budget of 10k i want a Mercedes sprinter because of the tall roof and extended length. From all the research I have done it seems the 2007+ sprinter is a maintenance nightmare due to the emissions shit. I’m looking at a 2006 and they seem to be very reliable. Ha anyone had any issues with a 2006 Mercedes sprinter?

Yo man if you buy any mercedes van you have to instantly. invest into the injection area of the head 1800$ to do it right. i have two 2006 vans and just rebuilt the motor on mine, im serious dude, do not fuck around with buying it then not purchasing new injector hold down bolts, crush washers and some other gasket stuff. This is not something where you can just go buy the van and use it like your local chevy express, if you want a 2006 sprinter you have to be willing to do maitenence religously, I will repeat my self once more so you understand, if you think maintaining a dirtbike is critical, that mercedes van you are about to purchase 2002 and up are more critical than mx bikes. Also there is a plastic peice in tbe tubo mercedes has revised it 7 times and still cant seem to figure it out, the fix is a cnc. machined aluminum wastgate barrel. Dont take this post lightly, or you will lose your 10k faster than going deep sea fishing in a hurricane.

The 2006 model is by far the very best year. But and this is a HUGE but, some t1n vans act tempermental, if you get one usually mice like to get in behind the cluster and chew the wiring up, so if you goto look at one and the guy thats selling is like , well everything works but the turn signals or the cluster doesnt illuminate correctly then you know mice have been in there, if you can try to look at a lot before buying dont just pull the trigger on the first one even thoughthey get you pumped with how big in size they are ( micro race shop)

I’m being told I can take a plastic cover off to check for that. But besides that issue I am told that motor is a 500,000 miles notor

i mean, there good for 120k tops on injector seals. yes you can take plastic cap off top to inspect, but motor is more maintenence requiring than a yz450f

I got a 2005 short/tall sprinter with 220k for $9k. Drove it until 280k, built it out while I had it and sold it for $14k. It was a great van, but when buying at high mileage you need to be handy and stay on the maintenance. I definitely fixed a lot of parts, but she was a runner.

What were the issues you ran into at that mileage?

Just little things, I did tires, struts, then EGR valve, the hoses started dry rotting, ball joints, wheel bearing, ect ect. You gotta remember that it’s 12 years old and little things will need to be fixed. The engine is solid, everyone who worked on mine said it will go to 500,000.

The good thing about that year and model is that there sooo much info on the Sprinter forums. I fixed almost everything myself. I was also getting 22-23mph on highway.

Am I the only one that thinks the Mercedes Sprinter is a POS ?
I mean, I have rode in them and have friends with them, Im not impressed.
Just saying.

Fords version with the Ecoboost is a much better option IMO.
Obviously, you will not find one used in that price range, but If I was buying newer used or new, that would be my go to for a moto van.

going with what 4cshater has already said. mercedes vans are only good if YOU are NOT the one paying for maintenance. Yeah they are awesome motovans but the amount of money spent maintaining one could score you 3-4 brand new chevy vans that will last you roughly the same as the sprinter (given you do regular maintenance). But it's up to you man. I personally would buy a new chevy van or a used very well maintained "moto van" and save a few grand. GL
