Smart carb vs. Lectron carb

I'm gonna be buying a new carb for my rm125 and need to know what everyone thinks about these two and which one is the better product.

I have a 36.mm billet smart carb on my rm125. It's best to use the stock manifold and reed setup to get the carb to fit and not rub on the shock spring.

Bike runs amazing, clean carburettion and mega top end, but it's a 144 with mega top end porting.

I tried the Lectron but couldn't get it to feel great all over. It would be good in one spot but lake in the other and vice versa.

I went back to my stock carb but used a JD jet kit and it felt way better first try based on their jetting specs.

The Lectron would be great if I was only trail riding, smooth and good power. But with the JD kit I feel like it hits hard all over which I like more for track riding.

Honestly at this point i'm thinking the smart carb would be better, lectron promotes more but I've only really since trail riders use them. Hows the tuning and stuff on it?

Unfortunately my stock carb isn't savable so its either pay for a overpriced period correct one on eBay that needs everything from my roached out stock one or just pay a tad more for a better carb.

The Lectron was super easy to tune and I liked that. In your scenario I'd try Lectron because the customer support was great. They are getting more and more info each day.

Maybe you can find a used one?

I've been talking to a guy who runs a little maintenance shop but he also sells products for companies, Lectron being one of those. He talks so good about them and you would think hes just saying that because he sells them but they're actually the same price whether you go through him or straight through lectron. That does make me consider it but it just seems like only people with ktm trail bikes use them.

I bet a yz125 would work. Should be plenty of them on ebay.

I tried the 38mm original cast smart carb and it didn't run good, so they replaced it with a 36mm billet and it's good.

Corey was a nice guy to work with, for sure.

Corey was a nice guy to work with, for sure.
i think I've looked into the yz carbs but the rm's have the two wires that plug into them and I can't verify if the yzs do too. also I thought the yz used a 36mm not a 38mm

Yeah, until 2005, the RMs didn't run the power jet.

The yzs have been 38mm with no powerjet since 2001 I think.

Also find out if the carb will even fit. It's a tight space. Stock manifold and reeds are best. Boyesen angles the carb closer to the shock spring. Vforce with the stock manifold spaces the carb too far back and it hits the spring as well.

I have a 38mm Lectron for sale if you're interested. I only used it for about 10-15 hours. I realized I actually enjoy tinkering with carbs too much to go with a metering rod type unit.

Bruce, did you look into the lectron as well? I'm about to pull the trigger and have spoken to both companies. Do you recomment the smarcarb in your experience? Thanks.

No expirience with either but I will say that it is very hard to find info on the smart carb.
You would think there would be one on a magazine test bike? Lectron is all over the Internet. I’ve asked on Smart carbs Instagram posts a few times about info and they never respond. They sure look good!

Totally know what you mean. I had to call smartcarb to get any info. Sounds like it's a better system but that's coming from them. What else are they going to say?

Lectron claims they get the most power out of a bike and they do have more riders using them at the 125 dream races, etc.

I ended up with the Lectron and couldn’t be happier, I bought it used and wasn’t sure if I needed to send it out to get adjusted to my bike but so far it’s ran perfect. I think he said he was running pump gas in it as well and I made the switch to Vp t2 and was worried about that but the bike still runs flawlessly.
