Seal stuck on clutch cover??

Trying to remove the water pump seal and it's practically melted or glued in and the only way I could get it out was to basically pull it apart. Any recommendations on how to get it cleaned up the rest of the way? Would acetone work or would it eat up the cover?

Acetone won't hurt the case. Get some fairly stiff bristled nylon brushes to scrub with. I have used paint stripper to remove gasket and seal residues. A little dab spread around , let it work for a minute or two, then wipe / rinse ,repeat if needed.

Aerosol brake cleaner is another shot.

Edit; I suggest some heavy rubber gloves and eye protection when using these chems.
