I have the short ones on my KTM and noticed that the fork legs get really hot...+ I am a litlle worried that they will scrap the legs.. On the other hand they do keep the dirt away...

I didn't like them. They create small scratches.

YES....but you have to keep them clean. Do not wash the bike with them on.
