In short should I get a new stator? Or just replace the bolts. I plan on flushing the system with a few quarts of oil. There was some noticible amount of fine metal shavings in the oil filter and strainer. But I'll get a new filter and clean strainer.

Yes not to bad. Not sure it'll effect anything.
Yea if replace it,but that's just me anything with any type of damage is replace it's safer bet
So a little about myself first. I'm 20 years old and a novice mechanic. My friend had a bike making a loud clicking noise when he turned it over. I told him to bring it over before he drops a bunch of money at a dealership. So I pulled the ignition cover off and the stator bolts came loose.

I found some plastic bits in the bottom of the case and under the oil pump. I'm wondering now should I just clean out under the pump or do you all think there could be bits of plastics on the other side of the engine also?
I drained the oil and from what I can tell there Is no plastic coming out the main drain plug.
