As the title says, do I need to install the race?

Are they using a different bearing than stock? If so, YES.

I’ve never changed the race and used a Ride clamp on my 2012 KtM.

Now using X trig on 2019 KTM and using stock race as well.

I have the 22mm ride clamps on my 2019 kx450. I didn't change the race. No issues!

I also have the performance link. The bike is more stable/predictable and handles great in the corners. I'm able to charge corners with confidence now. Well worth the money IMO.

I had the link before but didn't really like it so I sold that but I'm definitely interested in the clamps

I have the 21.5 with stock linkage. I like them, I had 21.5 on my 16-18 model as well with 49mm showa kit spring forks. I noticed I do have to make clicker changes between stock 23 and ride 21.5. Probably different loading of the fork.
