Not the first time that I have done them, but certainly the first time that I have had this problem.
I installed ned bearings today, was careful not to smack them, used a socket to seat them as well know to do, etc. I am 99.9% sure that I got them completely seated into the hub but now they are binding when I put an axle in. All 3 roll perfectly but the axle will not go through smoothly, it doesn't really want to go through at all, and is a bitch to get back out.

Its acting like at least one of the 3 bearings didn't seat properly. any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?

I've had the spacer get wedged in between the inner races and be slightly offset, making it hard to get the axle in the first time.

Proper size socket to outer Dia and heat around bearings
Smack them to seat

I prefer the freezer method. I used the proper socket and a rubber coated dead blow.

I beat the shit out of both sides a bit more and it got slightly easier. I have two spare bearings. I may beat the rotor (single bearing side) out and try a new one. its the side that feels like it is binding.

That may be your problem if youre confident they went in correctly. Aftermarket bearings just arent OEM quality.

Could be. I’ll put as perfect a finish on the rear axle as I can and try again. I got it to slip a little better. One OEM bearing was the price of the entire PW kit 🤦🏻‍♂️

Take your OEM bearing to a local bearing warehouse and ask for a good German or Japanese replacement.

I'm willing to bet 99% there is nothing wrong with the bearing itself. If there is, they'll send you another one. I've had one bearing from PW give me a problem in the last decade and they replaced it in 2 days. There's nothing wrong with their "quality" smh.

Are you applying a thin coat of grease to the axle before you install it?

I hate to say it, but it came down to a bad bearing. First one I’ve ever gotten bad from PW. I’m not gonna sweat it, luckily I had two extra identical bearings laying around.
For whatever reason the inner surface in the bearing wasn’t a good finish and forced the axle just enough to bind it. The markings were very clear in the polished finish of the axle.
Rolls like a dream now!
