2016 yz250, maybe 20hrs on it. Shock was pefectly fine when i put it away for the winter, sat in a unheated garage for 5-6 months (maybe -20c, -5f at the worst). Started the bike up for the first time yesterday, and somehow in the process of kick starting it, the shock just let go and spewed all of the oil out. Any ideas as to what could have suddenly split/broke/dislodged etc that coulda let this happen?

Id guess the cold weather dryrotted or cracked the seals. Also cold weather shrinks material. So if the rod shrunk it might not seal as well. HOWEVER ive always kept my bikes in an unheated garage and never seen a seal “just break” so idk. Must be a rare condition.

From length of time it sat, and lack of humidity, made seal stick then fold when moved.
