Hey there, looking for some options (if any) to raise the seat height on a 2014 KX100, aside from adjusting the rear suspension. My son is 14, 5'9" but probably 5'11 by the time I submit this post!

We also have a CR85 BIG Wheel that was his and that seems to be a better height for him, but his younger brother rides that now. I'll be lowering the suspension on the 85 for him.

Also, if I raise the rear suspension will that make it too stiff and do I also need to raise the front?

I just bought 6 dirt bikes in the last 6 months and this is all new to me so I'm trying to learn as much as possible.

Any advice or recommendations will help! Thank you!

Any reason to not move up to a 125 at his height?

I began looking into a KX100 last year to turn into a trail bike for my wife and get her off her KLX140G.
We went and looked at them at the dealership (along with the CRF150R) and at heart they had kid ergonomics that she was trying to get away from. She's 5' 6" and we ultimately decided to do bar risers & lowered pegs on her bike which helps minimally, and 2 months back finally got her on a full size bike which we now need to lower the suspension but ergonomically she favors it much more over her KLX.

Thanks for replying! I would say the main reason to go with the KX100 was because I felt like a 125 would have been a little too much for him since he is just starting out and he isn't that confident in his riding yet. Also, I have 3 younger kids (12, 10, 8) who can grow into it and I can always look for a bigger bike for him and continue to pass them down as the other kids get bigger and more experienced. I also looked at the CRF150R and it seemed smaller than the KX100. I will take a look at the bar risers and lowered foot pegs.

Power to weight the minis I have been on in the past are rockets compared to any 125 I’ve ever had. At his height you’re going to want to get him on a full size bike and set the suspension to factory settings like fork and sag. The 150rb (big wheel) and kx100 are similar. I think your 14 year old will be ringing a 125’s neck before you know it and the 12 year old will be ready for the kx100 real soon. If your kids are into riding and love doing it then they’ll get the hang of it quickly. My niece was all about it and was die hard, went from a ttr90 to cr85 and you couldn’t get her to quit; my nephew went from a ttr90 to a rm85 and crashed once (not a bad one), didn’t want to ride anymore. My wife is 5’4 and just started riding a 150rb this year from a klx110 and she loves the extra height and suspension. Proper body positioning is important to feel comfortable so getting the right size bike for the height will pay off.
