Is what repairable? If you're asking about the dark grey line it looks like a casting mark as a crack wouldn't really fork off at the edge like that.

I guess it's a YZ. The images here show a casting mark in the same place that looks identical. https://thumpertalk.com/forums/topic/1133160-cracks-in-my-engine-cases/

Those definitely look worse than mine.

It really feels like a crack though. I guess it's reassuring to see that post from TT. And yes, it's an 05 yz250

If it's a crack and it causes the engine to explode, and the flying shrapnel takes your testicles off, I'll pay for the surgery to reattach them. Deal?

You can have the case tested by a machine shop that performs dyeglow testing....I had a similar looking case on an older cr250, test showed It was casting mark not a crack.

I'm relieved too. My '06 has casting marks like that and I've been worrying about them for the last 12 years. Laughing

Now, let's talk about that crank. Looks like the bike was retrieved after being submerged in a muddy pond for 10 years.

Most of that is the dirt and crap that I just scrubbed off the surrounding areas minutes before the pictures. The bearings were in really bad shape. Had I just thrown in a piston and rode it, it wouldn't have lasted longer than maybe a ride or two. Didn't expect all of this when I bought it haha. Should have planned on it anyways just to be safe though

It is a crack. The crank is as dry as Death Valley and corroded to hell and back. That is "dirt and crap that I just scrubbed off the surrounding areas minutes before the pictures" ? Crazy much dirt. Suck it up... You have much work to do.

EDIT: Sorry to sound like an arse above. Roll up your sleeves and get it done. That's all part of the game: The not-so-fun bits one only later discovers.
