Hi I got my son 2015 kx 85. It blew up 2 times since I bought it in June. Everything is brand new on it. Piston, jug, head new gaskets boysen water impeller an new radiator only thing hasn’t been changed is the bottom end. But I just got new clutch An basket on it an he rode it for 1 st time since was rebuilt. An after like 40 mins of riding it started smelling like burnt coolant an started making a rattling noise same noise it made right before it blew up. Any idea what it could be please help he races Sunday An don’t want him to lose his points

Youre not being very specific. Based off what you wrote id look into it running lean and detonating or your bottom end is trashed.

Common misconception... more premix = leaner fuel charge... Is this the same bike that you’ve posted about several times on here? Has any problem ever been found or have you just replaced the damaged parts each time? There is definitely an underlying issue if it’s constantly melting pistons...

Yup same damn bike. After kept blowing I’m going back to stock. An it has a longer rod in it so I don’t know if that’s the problem but I replaced the head the jug radiator , piston new boysen water impeller an new clutch basket An plates I don’t know what else could be but once I run it for 40 mins it starts smelling like it overheating an makes a chattering noise same noise it was making before it blew up

Have you done any carb jetting? If not I’d certainly start there.

Just curious- why don't you take it to a "skilled, trained mechanic"? He could (at least) tell you what's wrong with it. How do you know it has a long rod? Who put it in? Who did the work? Look up the term insanity. Learn from your mistakes.

The piston keeps seizing on intake an exhaust side scared bad. The piston comes out of jug a little bit. I don’t think so I never heard of e 85. Fuel. An we go riding a lot so sometimes we ride for 2 hrs sometimes 40 mins. But his 65 he can ride it all day with no problem An the 85 after like 40 mins smell anti freeze smell an that’s what it did everytime it blew up.

I'm sorry but why don't you take it to a "real" mechanic? Stop putting new pistons in an obviously flawed

cylinder/intake/jetting/combustion chamber/connecting rod condition. Maybe just a water pump seal allowing water,

coolant to wash away premix lubricant. Spend the $150 on a mechanic instead of new pistons and gaskets.

You said piston sticking out of jug a little bit??! So when you remove the head, and turn the motor, the piston crown/top sticks out past the top of the cylinder?

I’d have to agree with the others, you’re spending so much money on all of these new parts, but not solving the problem. It would be much cheaper and less aggravating to you and your son to take it to a good mechanic, probably the dealer, and pay an hour or two in labor for them to see what’s going on.

The piston should not be sticking above the cylinder unless you are referring to a domed piston.
