Mikuni pos carb

So I have a mikuni VM38ss carb does that sound right?? It’s off a 81 rm 250.. what keihin carb could I swap to?? PWK 38as? I’m not really sure what the as means tho... I want a keihin as they are easier to jet and I have experience in doing so.. also I don’t know if I have order special non electrical simple old school carb.. thanks

I think the airbox design was a big hindrance on the 81 250 / 465. Very restrictive, and made it hard to jet properly. A few places offered a single sided air box that made a big difference in the way the bikes ran and jetting accuracy was made easier. AS may be air stryker. Don't think you need the electric connection on an 81 RM.

No I don’t need the electrical stuff.. so what keihin carb would I swap too?? And any idea what places I’d go to get a single sided air box?

Fullfloater.com has a lot of parts for the early Suzuki’s I believe they sell the single sided air box...

AS is known as being an Air Striker model on a Keihin PWK. The 99 & 00 CR250r's came equipped with them & are non-tps (no electronics). The differences were in the jetting specs & slides. If I recall the 99 had a 5.5 slide & the 00 had a leaner 7.0 slide.
Sudco or JD sell new Keihin PWK AS carbs that are non-tps (long version) if your're looking to buy new.
