Looking into buying a yz450f 2018, Help me!

Hello! This question mostly reaches out too you that own a 18. ive had a 14 and 16, both bulletproof.

Thing is that i have read some things about them, and the problems include starter clutch and that sand easily gets into the airbox and therefore ruins valves etc.

The one im looking to buy has 8 hours on it if that matters.

Why should you upgrade from 16 to 18? If you're 16 is okay why even change it?
Anyway i don't know, last yami i've owned was a 2012 YZ 125.

My son has 86 hours on his. Zero problems. He is an Intermediate + rider/Dad himself with a 60 hour a week job. His maintenance is oil (Motul 300v) every month, air filters often, and suspension service about every 40 hours. He loves it more now than new.

8 hours on the bike, it’s not even broke in. Suspension gets great at about 20 hours, seriously.

18 is great bike, better than my 16. Go for it! 8 hour is nothing.

First off, i dont know, i dont own one.

But theres been some somewhat recent threads where a guy bought a yz, the starter components went. Yamaha got him a new motor and that one went too. That doesnt include the barrage of other problems hes had with his brand new bike. You can read through those if you havent already. But just reading those makes me pretty weary of buying one. Yamahas have been known for reliability and it sounds like this specific bike dropped the ball. Every brand has their duds though, that could have been one of them.

Because the upgrade from the 14-17 bikes to the 18-19 is huge. Especially if you're a shorter/smaller rider.

New models have teething problems normally they updated the starter clutch on the 19’ and it’ll swap over if yours if you buy that bike and it ever goes, and one guy with a lemon out of 1000’s of yz450f’s sold is an anomaly, not the norm. I have 60 hours on mine zero problems I’m a vet INT rider, upgraded my air box to a no toil power flow system and have zero issues with sand in my airbox. I have about 20-30 buddies with these and they have all had zero problems as well. Still bullet proof like every yz450 before it. And since you’re probably saving a few bucks buying used than just upgrade the starter clutch and wheel spacers off the bat and you’ll be good to go.
