Hay guys,
Brought a set of kxf suspension of 2014 250, mainly for the forks and triples.
Searched and found conflicting info so im hoping someone can tell me if they used a kxf shock in there 125. Mines a 2003 too btw.
I also have a set of pc kx250 dog bones which are 2mm longer than stock wether that helps it work better?

If you've already bought the 2014 shock then measure the shocks eyelet to eyelet, I bet you will find the 2014 to be longer. I have 2005 KX250 and compared a 2015 KX250F shock to my 250's and it was about 3/4 inch longer. If it's indeed 3/4 inch longer it will make the bike have a serious stinkbug rearend and will affect handling.

Step 1: I would call Enzo and ask if you can snag a shorter clevis.

Step 2 would be in step 1 fails, add internal spacers.

If you scroll towards the bottom, Coal gave out some very good info on this.

I want to start collecting parts for a 2004+ kx125 so I’m kind of in the same boat.

But definitely start with Enzo. Great guys that love to share their knowledge.

Interesting info yeti, ill measure the eyelet difference and see what it is, the kx has a short clevis so could gain possible gain the difference in that. Hopefully stroke length is similar.

For sure, if you figure it out please post here. I have PLENTY time before I start actually building up a 125. Just doing light searching for the harder parts.

Good luck with everything 🤘

Do a quick google search. This has been a fairly big topic over the years and theirs a lot of good info out there. I know people have shortened/shimmed the shock to get the overall length correct but doesn’t the 250f shock have a longer body?
So, correct me if I’m wrong but won’t you be losing travel causing the bike to sit farther into the stroke?

Was curious about that myself.

Why I suggested contacting Enzo or Technical Touch for a shorter clevis. Just don’t know what clevis would work on a kx125 and fit an 18mm shaft.

I have an 04. Not sure why you would want to change the suspension, unless yours is not serviceable. I sent mine to Pro Circuit and the ride is amazing. It was designed around this setup. I am also amazed that today's bikes are setup for beginners. Motocross Action tested the 04 KX and said the setup was stiff and able to handle riders in the 200 lbs range. I know that the rear suspension was changed in 04.

David, I didnt mind the 2003 suspension at all, but both needed work and I picked up the kit for mainly the fork for wank factor(bling). What i paid for the forks, triples and clamps is what I'd pay for rebuild anyway, plus this stuff is heavier sprung.

Nice 125!

You can shorten the stroke but you'll lose suspension travel so the stock shock would be better. The longer linkage arm I've heard too... but again you're making changes when the stock shock would be better. I have a real kx a kit shock body so I don't have any issues. I just dealt with this issue again with enzo on a kyb 2 piece shock I was building for my 250.

04-05 kx125 has the same clevis as the newer 4 stroke.. the difference is in the shock body length it's over half an inch.

Would a “standard” lowering link resolve the issue or is it just not worth it?

Well on my 250 it has the longer pc arm and I couldn’t even bolt the shock on the bike. I still think you have to shorten the shock slightly even with changing the arm. I had no interest in doing it.

It would take one longer than the ProCircuit Link that is 3MM longer than stock (126 to 129), at least on the KX250. It would probably take a 132 to 134 length link, at that point I can't answer what the handling characteristics would be.

If your only need for the rear shock is bling then I would recommend having it coated and call it a day. What’s the use of having an A-kit rear shock that you’ll have to hack it to pieces. I almost went down the A-kit road a few years back but it wasn’t going to be worth the cost for an unknown outcome. I think I have a few hundred in both of my shocks (125 & 250) and hand great and look good for the money
