I didn’t check mine when I got a new 2016 250SXF. They never went out of spec.

I think youre supposed to let the motor break in and let the valves and seats wear into each other. After that you want to check the clearance just to be sure they dont get too tight.

Does the manual state an 1h check? Have never heard of that. Have owned 4 KTM's from 2014 - 2017 and checked valves usually around 40h, not even once have any clearance been out of spec. And thats around 100h on each bike.

I have had new bikes since 2012, every year. 450 SXF. Checked valves on the 2012 and 2013 every 30h. Then i stopped. KTM has one of the most stable valves-setup i ran into it seems.

Run about 100-170h on every bike every year and never had any problems with bike getting difficult to start.

I think this Comes from older 4-strokes where valves/seats settled in a lot after the first few hours (450, 520, 525 SX), but on all modern fourstrokes this shouldn`t be a Topic until 50-60 hours... at least on my last KTM and Husqvarna`s it never was an issue. First check at around 50 hours but they were always in spec. :-)

.I think KTM did this to cover their ass. I was talking to the dealer about it and he said you're supposed to have a certified KTM dealer do the work and so, they enter all the info into KTM database on your bike for warranty
