KX85 first bike?

Hello everyone.

I am 13 Yrs old and 5’3 and I want to get my first dirtbike to do motocross and maybe some trails. I have no riding experience but I have ridden a semi auto quad with shifter. I have a budget of around $2000 and I have been looking into a used 2017 kx85 for 2200 with title. I’ve seen people saying that 2 strokes are bad beginner bikes but I can’t afford a Honda crf150. I have also seen a listing for a 2016 kx100 for 2500 but I am not sure which is more beginner friendly. Please help out thanks!

I think the KX100 is a little easier to ride and gives you a little bit more room to grow into. Either would be a decent option.

2 Strokes were the only option for beginners for decades and still the primary option for people your age and younger. 4 Strokes are for sure easier to ride but I would not stay away from a 2 stroke as a beginner. There aren't many good 4 stroke options really and you'd probably pay a premium for them.

I had a 97 kx80 as my first bike. it was kinda pipey and hard to ride. 100 definitely a lot smoother, I think the newer bikes have a powervalve too which Im sure helps.

KX100 if you can swing it, but either would be a good choice. As stated above, the 100 will have more room for you to grow whereas you would outgrow the 85 a little sooner.
