Hi all on the kx65

I took the top of the carb to try and put a restrictor tube in, now when I kickstart the bike it screams like hell - the throttle is stuck fully open.

I guess I've put the needle/cable/spring back wrong

Any tips
Cheers

I guess I'm doing something apparently so simple and I've missed it

Just don't want to go to my local shop and be charged a small fortune for 5 mins work

Make sure throttle tube rotates easily. Then check for binding in the cable. Then what happens most that ive seen is the spring gets bound in the slide and it holds it up. Just make sure its together correctly and operates correctly when you put it together

Throttle tube turns freely
When I've not scrwed top on throttle seems to work fine

But when the needle is in the guide and top is screwed on then thats when throttle seems to be stuck

Maybe I've got retaining plate in wrong

Not sure about your bike specifically but sometimes its easy to put them in 180 degrees off if youre not paying attention.

Make sure the needle is going into the jet or it will hang up. Also remember that the slide can only go in one way or it will hang up as well.

It feels like it is all going back together freely but there's no play when the top is screwed back on

I will have a play about tomorrow and maybe take pictures if no luck

There's a retaining plate above the pin

There's a little raised bit does this slot in the grove or face up

The orientation of the plate is a little confusing, make sure you didnt put the end of the cable through the little hole (B in your picture) first. It seems like it should go through there first before connecting to the slide but it doesn't

I've just been and had a play with it
The throttle springs back and seems the piston in carb goes up and down freely

But still I kickstart the bike and the revs are screaming on its own

Any ideas please

Check the throttle cable adjustment on the throttle itself. This happened to me a few weeks ago on our husky 85. Cable wasn’t properly adjusted from factory

Take the carburetor out of the manifolds and leave the cable connected. Can you see through the carb throat to the other side? You should not be able to, except for perhaps a little slice of daylight at most. The slide should come down and close off the airway almost completely.
Now turn the throttle. Can you see the slide moving up? When you let go of the throttle does the slide snap back down? These are all the things it should be doing.

There is a guide pin on the inside of the carb body which slots into the groove in your slide; be sure those two pieces mate well and aren't gunked up with anything.

Found out it's looking the problem is not from the carb
It was just a coincidence that it developed a leak at the same time

So I've been advised to have the crank seals done so may aswell have it rebuilt at the same time

Is this achievable for a DIY novice or am I better taking it to a bike mechanic
The guy I go to is more a 4 stroke man

Anyone know any decent 2stroke guys in South East Wales area

Cheers
