KTM 2019 250SXF won’t start with Vortex ignition!!

I’m currently running a vortex ignition which is absolutely brilliant but the dam bike will not start with it, I have to plug my standard one in to get it to fire up but with the vortex it just turns over and doesn’t want to start.

Once it’s warmed up it will start with the vortex but not very well and is bit hard on the battery.

I’ve done the TPS

I also put my vortex on my friends brand new bike and it fired up straight away so I don’t think it’s the vortex.

I’ve also changed the fuel pump relay.

Any help would be great.

Thank you

Are you using the cold start button?

Obviously the mapping on the vortex is leaner which is why it doesn't want to start cold but will start hot. Perhaps your coolant temp sensor is bad and not sending correct info to the ECU to richen up for cold starting.

Yea I’ve tried using the cold start button but made no difference, I’m just baffled to why it fires up straight away with the standard ECU.

I’ll have to check the temperature sensor, where will I find this ? Thanks

On the 250SX-F I believe it is inside the rubber boot on the left side of the cylinder head.

The sensor costs about $20. It's almost not worth messing with your buddy's bike at that price. Me, I'd just buy one and throw it in there.

Man that's a trip, my 2019 Crf450 would start with a 2018 Vortex but not turn off.

Can’t actually believe it but I stuck my old battery on and it fired straight up yet if I use my brand new battery it won’t work with vortex but will start no problem with stock ECU...very confusing

Compare voltages between the 2 batteries. New one might be a dud.

Just checked both of them and 1 is reading 13.3 the other 13.2 this is confusing

May have the volts, but not the amps. Does it turn over noticeably slower with the new battery?

It’s starting okay but the starter motor sounds like it’s struggling to turn over. Just turns over then fires up. Might get a new battery but not another stock one.

Sorry, yes, I meant static voltage but also voltage drop while cranking. You likely have excessive voltage drop while cranking on the bad battery.
