Hi Guys,
I'm starting to put more and more hours on a 2020 YZ450F and am really starting feel the weight - especially in off-road/trail environments.
The weight is not a total surprise and I buy Yamahas for their balance and reliability. Overall, I think it's a GREAT bike, but it is heavier than I would like ... which has me thinking KTM again .
So ... all you knowledgeable VitalMX'ers on this subject, what do you suggest for weight savings and how much weight can I likely save with each suggestion? I could use this education in general.
Assume I am trying to lighten a completely stock bike.
Thanks in advance!

It isn't going to change the nature of the bike though.
For the 1000's you might spend on Ti it's probably not worth it. Do the big/cheap items mentioned above and call it a day.
The Shop
It appears not much!

Ti and the like will save you more weight from your wallet than on the bike, so unless you have a big budget, start elsewhere:
* Tires (Michelin or Hoosier) are a big one and cheap. Often 3 pounds or so there.
* Titanium exhaust can save a pound or more.
* Guts seat foam can save about a pound.
* Tubeliss rear is lighter, front is heavier.
* Our triple clamps and bar mounts can save you 0.8 lbs. over stock
Those are the big ones. There are lots of little ones that add up to big weight loss, but it all comes at a price... Just be careful what you compromise to lose weight. That hard_enduro_life account on Instagram is a good example of that. He's all about weight loss, which is fine, but some of his changes compromise performance significantly to lose weight. That said, it's a great source for weights of stock and aftermarket stuff (for a KTM), just use your head with what you take from it!
Worth it? Not really, just much better looking hardware if anything.
Here was my finding:

REALLY APPRECIATE THE FEEDBACK ABOVE GUYS - KEEP IT COMING!
Best case: Don't add weight! Tusk wheels, aluminum skid plates, super HD tubes, o-ring chain, steel sprocket, etc. can help with durability/convenience, at the expense of added weight.
Also, try to focus on the cheaper/free unsprung factors first: stock rim-strips are lighter than duct-taping rims, tire choices and tubes MATTER, lose the rear brake hanger plastic protectors (and don't be like Honda: cut off the mounting tabs if you're okay going that route!), Ti axles go farther than practically all the smalls you can add, Ti shock spring, aluminum DRC 6mm trim bolts are lighter than both OE and Ti...I'd try Fatbike MTB tubes for the price and spinning factor before bigger ticket pricy options. Let us know how it goes!

"What modifications would it take to lose 10lbs off of a 2019 KX 450?"
What's the budget? Certainly attainable, but with a price. However, as mentioned, comparing apples to apples means you add appx. 3lb to the KTM/Husky instantly for a comparable dual spring fork; not to mention replacing their THIN oe-specification tubes with something you can actually ride...
-Tires are a good place to start. Have heard the Michelin's and new Hoosiers are almost spec tire light. Even Pirelli's weigh less than Dunlop and Bridgestone competition. ≈.25-1lb.
-Exhaust. Replacing the bazooka yields significant weight savings. ≈2.9lbs.
-New triple clamps. Ride Engineering advertises .25lb. with their 19' design.
-Guts Phantom seat foam; Don't forget the PulpMX discount code. ≈.25-.50lb.
-RaceTech titanium advertises 6.5lb. decrease with ALL their trinkets. Can usually get ≈1.5lb. decrease with just axles and swingarm pivot.
-DRC sells aluminum bolts that are a good replacement for LOW STRESS applications. ≈.25lbs.
-LightSpeed and PC should be selling a carbon chain guide which aids in alignment and loses some ounces.

And is there a preferred brand?
Post a reply to: It's been asked before, but ... how much weight can I expect to lose with Ti hardware, Tubliss systems, etc.?
