This is something I've thought about.
Is the "expensive" TwinAir (or similar) airfilters actually and better than the lower priced options?
I usually buy a pack of 10 filters when I get a new bike and I'm always choosing between getting the lower priced version or a name brand.

I’d recommend buying Tusk filters. They’re dirt cheap, fit good, and semi-disposable.
Yes I'm mainly talking about the quality of the foam etc.
I've never had an air filter with a bad fit/seal even on the slightly lower priced ones (allthough I'm sure there might be some shitty ones out there)

Not only do they use super high quality foams, but there's a neoprene seal where they contact the airbox for a dust-proof seal without needing any grease. Best airfilters in the dirtbike world.
Very good quality filter and very well made. I always use a DT-1 for longer Enduro races, or any track that is notoriously dusty. As above, they seal on the airbox better than any other filter IMO
I really like the DT1 filters with the extra "mud" layer of foam. I can't tell any power difference and they seem to work great.
I spray my filters with PJ1 red air filter oil, inside and out, then work in the oil by hand. Air boxes have been spotless for 15 years with the same method.
Also, for ktm models, the oem twin air is actually cheaper than the aftermarket twin air.
I used no toil filters for a long time but they kinda got a little stretched out
