I am 210 pounds and my 125 was super fun to ride. I did destroy clutches fast and in heavy sand i had a hard time. I bought a yz250 now and it is way easier to ride in heavy sand.

it probably comes down to personal preference on how hard you want to work racing it, shifting gears, and carrying momentum in corners thats about it. im 200 and have a 250 2t. I only ride 2nd and 3rd. I can be lazy on it or ride it as hard as I can and it is great. Do a few things to keep the power smooth so you wont get tired fast and your in business. You probably will still need to have it re sprung if you are picky. Id only get a 125 as a second bike or if you want to practice technique for a little while.

So I should get a 250 2 stroke?

Absolutely
125 will be fun for a time or two but if your consistently motoing and trying to race etc, the 250 is the way to go

For your weight, a 250 2-stroke is likely a better fit in my opinion - meaning you'll have more power to get you safely over a jump vs. barely making it as a 125 screams up the face to get every last inch of acceleration to clear it. Whoops will be easier because you can readily loft the tire, etc.

125s require more frequent top-end builds, too. They are just more work in my experience.

Lastly, don't discount a 250F. Modern 250Fs are amazing machines. I was anti 250F until I bought a 2016 YZ250F. Honestly, I'm thinking it's my most fun bike overall.

250 all day. I have a 150 and a 250. The 150 is a lot of fun but it's work and it's not great in certain conditions. I usually wait until lines are cut in on the track when I bring the 150, or you're beating the living piss out of it. The 250 is a lot more versatile of a bike at your weight and will require less maintenance.
