Hi!

I'm thinking about buying an 03' Husqvarna CR250 and the seller did a rebuild,

new piston, pro circuit exhaust, new crank, carburetor, spark plug, all new bearings and some other smaller things (seals etc.),

on the picture bellow you can really see she's a beauty...

okay so the problem is that after the rebuild the bike goes into false neutral every couple of shifts eg. every 10 min of riding. It didn't do that before the rebuild so any ideas?

Also the bike is selling for $1450 and the price isn't final so that's why I'm so interested.

Thanks in advance,

If it didnt do it before the rebuild then he rebuilt it wrong and who knows what else was done wrong. Id pass on that bike. Get a jap bike if youre getting an early 2000s 2 stroke.

To fix that, it requires a full teardown.

1400 for a 03 husky that has a shifting issue is a little steep; but if you’re confident in your mechanical ability that’s not a total deal breaker... Those bikes aren’t rockets, but they are a lot of fun, personally I love the feel of those year marzocchi forks... I would think 900-1000 would be a more realistic price.

I raced a 2002 for a season and the Pro Circuit pipe is a huge improvement. I did have experience with 1 shifting issue....basically if I remember right it was failing to register shifts sporadically when you would click the lever up. Took the whole motor apart and it just turned out to be a loose screw on the shifting mechanism. You can get to it with just removing the clutch cover. I don’t know about a false neutral, but really looks like a low hour bike and the transmission should be bulletproof.

I really appreciate all the replies. I came to the conclusion to take a look and try to recreate the problem. Just like wpark89 said I read on a couple of forums about the screw behind the clutch "compartment" (behind the basket).
When I get to the owner I'll try to recreate the problem... might be that he just shifts in a weird way.

If you have any more suggestions feel free to write them here I'm still interested.

P.S. Asked the same question on thumpertalk and not one person responded in 22 hours so thanks again...

thanks,

sipa
