Last time I went riding I noticed my top engine mounting bolt had backed out and I didn’t have any extras. I didn’t know if this would put more stress on certain areas of the frame so I put my bike up for the day.

I got a new bolt and when I threaded it in I realized it got tight, but never stopped turning. I backed it out and noticed a couple threads came out with it. Now I’m stuck on what my best option is here. Helicoil? Tapping to a larger size would mess with my engine hangers so I don’t want to go that route.

Definitely want to do it right. I’ll have to look into timeserts in the AM. Thank you

I stripped a few threads on the same bolt on my KTM 150. I actually found a bolt that was just a little bit longer and it worked fine. Torqued and has held in place.

Was it from the same bike or do you remember where you found it?

According to the parts diagram, that is an M8x20 bolt. The 2 bolts that hold your exhaust pipe on are M8x30 so they are 10mm longer reach. Try one of them to get an idea. 10mm might be too much. Maybe stack a few washers. The handlebar clamp bolts (4 pinch bolts) are M8x25. Check those too. You'll have to consider the type of head and any unthreaded shoulder on the bolt.

Id get a key locking thin walled thread insert for that. Mcmaster sells them. Timeserts are expensive and honestly its not going to be any different than a keylock.

I’ll look into them. I definitely want an insert of some type rather than jamming random bolts in and jacking it up even worse.

Can that be drilled and thru bolted or is there a coolant passage in the top of the cylinder?

You should have enough meat there to use the "Keensert" as mentioned above from McMaster Carr. I have used both for this application, helicoil and keensert as well as welding them up and re-tapping.

Either will work for you. Good Luck
