Bikes a 2003 cr125, i have the top end off, feels like the main bearings and cranks fine with no play, smooth rotations,
but if i pull up and own on the rod moving it 10mm each way i get a loud'ish knock when it takes the slack up... i assume this isn't normal, but maybe it is as i am essentially turning the motor backwards to create the slack ?
The bikes always sounded a little rattly/loud compared to others, even after a new crank and main bearings, which makes me think it may be this, can anyone point me in the right direction, is it just the primary drive gear on the clutch outer hub gear, and is this normal ?

Honestly without seeing what youre doing or hearing it, its hard to tell. Best thing is if your crank is tight, check out the clutch side gears to be safe.
