Hey guys, i just bought a set of öhlins suspension for my yz 450F 2020. But i have a problem with the hole in the fork lugs, the hole that the axle goes through. The holes in it are 20 and 25 mm, and on the oem it’s 22 and 27mm… so do anyone know if it possible so just drill og machine the hole to the same size, or do i need to get an axle from the yz 2 stroke model, cause im pretty sure that is made to fit that model, and thats why the holes are smaller…

hope you guys can help me out👌🏽 Photo

Get the correct parts. Those holes arent drilled. Theyre reamed or bored to size.

By the correct parts. There is more to it then just a hole.

X3 on getting the right axle. That's a close-tolerance fit and drilling won't be accurate enough. Also, I'd bet the larger-bore lugs have more material around the hole; you might be weakening the lugs to an unsafe condition if you try to expand the holes.

Braaapin' aint easy.

Yeah okay, do you guys recomend i get new fork lugs, or do you know if it would be possible to just take a yz axle and spacers to use? I was told from the seller that would work but im not sure myself…

If someone cant give you an answer, you would need to get the correct axle and spacers and see if they work. Some of these front fork swaps require the correct wheel or custom spacers. If the bearing ID isnt correct youd need the correct wheel too.

The newer "F" uses a large diameter and shorter axle than the YZ 2T do. Changed about 2012 with the hub, spacers, axle and fork lugs. From the dimensions you gave you seem to have lugs for a 2T wheel and axle. You either need to change the wheel or the lugs. I'd have the lugs changed.

Yeah okay, thanks mate… i just thougt that yz and yzf had the same wheel? I have seen several people sell wheel sets where they say that it fits both yz and yzf

Some of the aftermarket wheels are set up with different spacers that will allow you to interchange, and I have seen guys use the spacers for the aftermarket wheels to get OE wheels to fit, but I'm not sure how well they really fit. When I say "FIT", I mean it's in the exact same spot as stock. I've seen guys running wheels offset 3mm and think they "FIT", but say things like, "It fits, but the brake drags a little bit". They seem to have different standards for the term "FIT" than I do.

Gte the right lugs. 100%

If the forks were mine I would bore the holes 2mm larger, that is only .04" removed on each side of the hole. The major force is going in the up direction and there is plenty of metal up top.

I failed to mention in my previous posts that the "F" axle is shorter than the 2T axle. That's why I said change the wheel and axle or the lugs. Boring the lugs won't work because the axle and spacers are wrong for those lugs.

Just buy a front wheel for a YZ. They are everywhere
