Faulty oil pump drive gear, and or Or metal particles plugging the ports To the camshaft walking the flow of oil. Do you have any of you experience this with your Ktm or husky?

You check your oil pump gear yet? Curious because I just changed my gear. My stock one looks fine though. 2018 350sxf 27hrs.

Have not checked out my oil pump gear yet, I still have to try to diagnose the cause of the problem. From my research I found that this is a frequent problem on these engines. Metal filings in the engine to plug the ports and or a faulty oil pump. I will update you in the future. Pending further investigation

Plugged oil passage roached my top end. Have not bought a 350 since. Switched to Yamaha 4 strokes. Had assembly errors on my last 3 KTM 4 strokes cause oiling or cooling issues.

A friend just sent this tread to me after my 2017 fx350 seized at 25 hours. The top end is toast. The shop has quoted me $3,269 to replace the cylinder head and cylinder and piston including labor and the rest of the parts they need as all of it is damaged. I just got the forks updated because the inner seal was leaking air into the outer chamber as this was a problem with the forks too. I had the bushings, and seals replace at that time along with a re valve for my weight, as they were harsh at a cost of $450. Had gone 3.8 miles on the forks when the bike seized. I am depressed.

It’s a tough situation. I feel for you guys. I’m really bummed about my $11,000 dirtbike, that I haven’t been able to ride for 2 1/2 months because of the Covid thing and my local track being closed. I loaded up my bike and headed to the track two weeks ago fired it up on the stand and it ran just fine. I put on my gear jumped on my bike and rode over to the track, and it seized and or died. It has never run again. It’s not like I have a back up bike in the garage, does anyone have a loaner for me?

Didn't you just post a picture of your oil pump idler in another thread you started? The gear being warped more than likely resulted in the oil pump losing drive and starving the top end of oil. Seems like the most likely cause to me.

There's a number of threads on this on Thumper Talk. Seems there was a batch of bad oil pump gears and they put out a revision...
There's a number of threads on this on Thumper Talk. Seems there was a batch of bad oil pump gears and they put out a revision to (hopefully) eliminate the warping of the gear that causes this. I'm assuming that's the root cause of your failure.

Hammer
Hammer, do you know the year range/model 350's that are affected?

Engine Dynamics can fix the Head and cam cover.
Where is engine dynamics located, they can re-machine the head and the cam cover to fit new cams??

Many places that do cylinders will do head repair. CVTech repaired my head after damage from lack of oil. Just be carful that the repair does not warp the head/cam journals and you have to shim.

I also have a 2017 FX350 that I bought used after previous owner had cam and head replaced. After my first ride, I noticed oil leaking out breather tube. I took it to a reputable local shop and the diagnosis: Faulty oil pump gears not meshing properly causing lack of lubrication. Same as the other guy claimed to have fixed. He supplied the repair receipt to me with the bike.
The fix: Total engine rebuild.
The cost: Don't ask! All I can say is, I should have bought new because I will now have spent more on a used bike. Sad day.

My bike just did this same shit. Looks like the top picture. Bike has 46 hours and not hard hours. Disappointed in ktm. Going to see what the shop will do as far as contacting ktm for help with parts

I had a 2011 350 that roached its top end. Possible blocked oil squirter/passage. Turned me off 350’s. Started buying Yamaha 4 strokes.
