Engine dies in 1st gear when still cold

I have this problem with my kx 250f. I have to run the motor at least one minute in choke and then another minute without choke. Then the 1st gear works no problem. But when im a little impatient the motor dies immediately when im putting in 1st gear. This cant be normal right?

The engine speed slows down when you click into gear. That why it stalls when cold. You should be able to hold the rpms higher to keep it going. But the right way to do it is to let it warm up. Waiting 1 min isnt gonna kill you. Put your helmet and gloves on and it will be ready.

You want to start it up, and instantly hold the throttle wide open until the head pipe glows cherry red, and steam starts pouring from the radiators. Then you know it is really warmed up.
