Just wondering opinions on how tight you guys are setting up your head bearings. My steering is really loose on my 17 crf450, I don’t feel any movement like slack in the bearing but when on the stand there is hardley any resistance letting the front end just swing to either side. Should it be tightened some to prevent headshake etc. or is it ok the way it is? thanks for the input

Service manual torque is where it should be. You definitely dont want the bars to flop over. Thats how you get hurt.

Once you get to the specified torque, you can adjust it for what you want. Like my bars are set up to stay where i turn them. My brother prefers his a little more loose than that.

I think I’ve exceeded the limits of the bearing and races... it won’t get any tighter....

I get them so they just stay and don’t flop. You can move them with a light touch, but have resistance.

I noticed on Honda at least that when you just torque to spec they’re extremely loose. Seems the same on my yamaha.
