So I’m in the middle of a 2001 Kawasaki KX250 project bike build and as I was taking the crank out I noticed a problem. At the bottom of the case toward the front where the crankshaft is there is a slight crack. Does anybody know of a reliable way the fix it at home or does anybody know of an experienced shop that can do a weld repair on the case?

Definitely repairable here’s an 02 that had similar damage that I repaired... after you thoroughly clean it; soak it in acetone or something similar to remove as much oil as you can from the casting...preheat the case, tig it, dress it, and then lap the case halves.

Thanks for the input, I guess I’ve gotta find someone with a tig welder.
