Ok so I got a 2003 cr85 I bought it used and it ran fine. The next day we cleaned the carb went to check the air filter and there wasn’t one. So we put one on and now it is acting weird. It would start up and rev really high and you could go thru all the gears and then it would die. I tried to google it and what I’ve read is that it could be the stator, cdi box, or coil. We have a new spark plug in and a new coil. Didn’t do the stator bc we can’t get the flywheel off bc on the stupid special tool. Seems to me like it has weak spark. I’ve been also told it could be fuel related. Any ideas and if it was the stator I don’t seem why it would rev up high and stay high like that?

Maybe the previous owner removed the filter for more air flow and had to adjust the carb accordingly. Try turning in your fuel screw 7 turns and you should be good, bro.

Did you rest the float level and clean each jet?
