New oem springs on the right, old ones on the left. Not sure if the old ones are oem or not... they were the ones on the bike when I purchased it.

I realize the springs can lose strength over time but this sure seems like a big difference...what gives?

I'm no master tech or anything, but I'd say the previous owner put the wrong springs in there. Maybe he wanted heavier springs and went longer instead??
Are you 100% sure your springs are for an RM250 and not an RM-Z250? The correct OEM part numbers for 2005 are as follows:
RM250: 09440-18036
RM-Z250: K9214-50252

They could have been 450 springs?

They are probably aftermarket, I've seen them like that on my old 05 rm250
