As the title says, when it comes time to do a clutch in your bike do you replace fibers and plates every time. I change mine every 30-50 hours on my 250F (slow C-rider) and have always just bought a kit with fiber and plates and replaced both. A buddy of mine told me to save some $$ and only buy new fiber plates, unless the steel plates are cracking. I can't remember ever pulling out a steel plate that looked bad.

To me, it seems like cheap insurance to make sure everything is fresh. I don't think there is anything wrong with reusing old plates that are still in spec but, you need to make sure that they actually are in spec.. Most people don't have a surface plate to check for warp.

Yes, I replace fibers and steels together. The plates could be glazed over just enough to prevent the fibers from breaking in properly or the plates could be warped enough to cause drag and overheating.

You can measure for thickness & warpage. If they are blue they have overheated. I replace everything while I”m in there, just be done with it.

In a pinch yes you can just do fibers. Unless your steels are different color, too thin, or damaged/warped.

KTM sells a service kit that includes fibers and steels. Although that clutch lasts so long it may be that the steel is shot by the time the fibers give up the ghost.
