So I'm restoring my 78 RM125 (see thread in the Old School Moto category) and the primary and pulsar coils are dirty, rusty, oily and just plain nasty due to bad seals, gaskets and 40 years grease, grime and abuse. What's the best way to clean these parts? Carb cleaner, brake cleaner, etc? I want to clean them up even though they'll be hidden once the cover is bolted back on but I don't want to ruin them in the process. Thanks in advance.

Brake cleaner,,, but if this is more than eye candy you’ll never ride,,, I recommend custom rewind in alabama to redo coils. I have had them rebuild 3-4 of my 78-79 rm125s. Age and oil soaking along with it being a 125 -limits the chances there 100% now. Nothing more fun than people saying hey I want to see that bike you just rebuilt and saying sure,,, how does it run... it needs work.
