The engine was sprayed with a heavy duty degreaser that wasn't supposed to be used on aluminum. Any tips on cleaning this up aside from being disassembled and soda blasted or scrubbed with WD-40 and scotch brite? Maybe mag wheel cleaner or alumibrite?

You might try one of the wheel cleaners for polished aluminum. If that doesn't work go to something a little more aggressive (all-wheel cleaner etc). I would avoid mag wheel cleaner as it is very aggressive.

No to mag wheel cleaner.
Best bet is to scotch brite it.

Also you could wait till the next bottom end rebuild and ship your cases to get vapor blasted. Much more expensive to do this option tho.

I have been using mag wheel cleaner on my bikes for years. Never had a problem. I coat all aluminum with spray and scrub bike with soap/water, then pressure wash. coat with sc1 and blow off with air.

The 4th picture looks like you have sun tan lotion on the carb. Don't use sun tan lotion on the aluminum. It is a waste of money

Yeah it sure does look that way! I used a wired brush, scotch write, and WD-40 to clean everything up the best I could. Whenever I do a bottom end on it I will send the cases and carb out to have them blasted. Its just an awful eye sore right now.

Why would you need to disassemble to soda blast? I have done it many times to assembled bikes. Just plug anything up you don't want it in.............Napa Alumibrite & pressure washer works well just be careful around coated fasteners........
