Chain tension question

Hey guys, this occurred to me recently and I don’t know if I’ve been doing this wrong for years.

As usual, the chain tightens up quite a bit after you tighten down that axle bolt, I’ve been measuring my chain slack after everything is said and tight, but my manual for m 01 YZ250 says to measure it before you tighten th axle.

Any ideas?

I measure before tightening, keep the axle just snug enough and the adjusters accordingly. I do take a small extension or Philips screwdriver in a rag onto the sprocket teeth with the chain taut under the chain to keep it where I want it when I torque the nut.

You have made it thru all these years, so I wouldn't worry though.
