I found a 32 oz. jug of Maxima Super M in my garage that is at least 5 years old. Is it safe to use it or does it go bad?

I wouldn't think twice about using it. As long as the bottle was closed and not collecting dust.

I'm with imoto on this. For $15 why risk it? It could have moisture since it was opened.

Oil displaces water.. it doesnt absorb it like gas or brake fluid....

Run it. (Unless dead moths are floating in it.)

Yes I understand they don't mix. But if moisture collected in the bottle over time, are you going to try to remove the water from the bottle before pouring it into the fuel can? For $15, I'd personally just toss it and buy a new bottle.

I used a 4 liter can about 4 years after opening it, no problems .
But it could in theory be degraded by moisture in the air inside the can

Have used sealed HP2 premix oil that is about 15 yrs. old with no issues. Had about 4 bottles left over from a couple of cases (from around 03) & forgot all about them as they got buried in the garage over the years. I'd suggest checking the pre-mix 1st to make sure it looks normal.

It looked exactly like the new stuff, so I used it yesterday. I was lazy more than cheap -- didn't want to wait for the shop to open before I left for the track. No problems at all. Ran like a champ and the exhaust smelled just awesome as usual.

I can remember my Dad using straight weight motor oil as pre-mix in the early 1960's. Heard of a desert racer way back that used a small can of 3 in 1 oil for a bit of premix after running out of fuel down in Baja. He found gas , but that was the only oil available. Made it to the next gas stop and finished.

Some oil is better than no oil, old or not.

No..... Once opened it will start to absorb moisture and begin to breakdown. Its 5 years old.
Its your engine.

^^This is a basic fundamental of oil.^^.

The main concern would be if the oil has lost it's integrity with the chemical substrates separating or chunks that have developed due to extreme heat or cold cycles (in the stored area).
