What am I doing wrong here? Bought the galfer steel braided cable and I can’t get this thing to stay in like I could the stock cable. It just seems too long, any ideas?

You need to move the cable up more. It's sitting to low in the fork guard.

Edit: There should also be a cover under over the fork lug that helps keep the brake line in place.

Flip the line around I think you may have installed it in the wrong direction... I may be wrong but I think the shorter end of the braided line showing should go to the caliper...

It had tabs that’s said “to master cylinder and to rotors” and I installed it accordingly, maybe galfer messed up.

Is the cable loose? Or is it tight in the pinch clamp

Ok it looks like you missed the groove the cable rides in at the bottom of the fork... loosen the clamp pull the cable up higher and put it in the groove tighten the pinch clamp would be my only guess... reason I said it was upsidedown is the sheath on the cable normally gets tightened between the pinch clamp...

I’ll try that again but the groove doesn’t hold the cable in, it’s very loose sitting in that.

It’s really just a guide as stated above there should be a retainer... if you can’t get it sorted out call galfer I’ve had wrong cables sent to me before

If they did send you the wrong line I’d suggest you get a cr style brake line to eliminate it wrapping underneath the fork lug.

It does sort of look like you’ve just got it clamped too low, like if you were to loosen up the pinch clamp and pull it up a few inches you might be fine

All I need is the new style fork guard and I can run that line right?

Not exactly. Bolt patterns are different. Light speed makes a fork guard for the older yz's that allows you to use the normal clamp and cr style brake line.
