A relative of mine bought a CRF 50 and asked me to see if I could fix a throttle issue. I'm not an expert mechanic by any means, just experienced at maintaining my own bikes.

The issue: The bike starts fine, however when riding it has a sticky throttle. By this I mean you let off the throttle completely the bike will continue to maintain speed for 2 to 3 seconds and then decelerate.

Right off the bat, I noticed the throttle cable was cracked so I replaced that and cleaned the throttle housing. After test riding the bike the issue is still present. I attempted to adjust the cable free play but the same issue still occurs.

Anyone on here have any advice or tips? I've been doing research and I'm considering moving the needle, however I don't believe that explains why it continues to maintain speed for 2 to 3 seconds after letting off. Maybe the auto clutch is adjusted too tight?

(As a side note, when cracking the throttle wide open from idle the bike will bog.)

Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like an intake system air leak needs to be found.

Thank you. I'll see if I can find an air leak in the system.
