Ok I got a 2006 CRF250 with a blown engine, changed the crankshaft, piston, cylinder, exhaust valves, spark plug, valve clearances are ok, the carb is like new inside and it has the stock jetting settings according to my location
The bike is not starting up with the kickstart, it is possible to push start it but it won't kick over, backfires sometimes when kickstarted... i know theese bikes are hard to start but this is driving me crazy..
the timing is good and it has spark..
Any ideas ?

how's it run after bump started ?

for some reason there is a trick to start every bike I own...when people ask to ride one i always say "if you can start it you can ride it"

96 cr 125 -we little bit of throttle and 2 or 3 very quick kicks

2014 crf 450 - prime that feul pump with a 1-2 slow kicks then 1 big quick full kick

73 rickman montessa- usually a quick hard wack on the kicker with no throttle, if really hot hold the throttle wide open and kick until starts (learned this one from some old-timer flagging at the vet national highpoint when i wrecked and it wouldn't start) he came over ans said hold that badboy wide open and kick away sure enough she fired right up and off i went to finish the GP.

99 - kx 250 - starts first kick every time (this is a hell of a trick) haha its my loaner bike by the way.

sorry for the no help...

Valves are in spec? If you didn’t replace the seats they like to eat the head

I just am working on one of these myself. Take some Prussian blue and check the contact patch of the valve to the seat. My valve clearances were all good but the seats were worn and leaking. Get old seats cut or I got a new head from cylinder works for $300. Seat are already cut ready to accept valves.

I had the same issue with my 07 CRF250 after I did a full rebuild. I installed the timing chain tensioner incorrectly. I put it back into the head with the 2 outside bolts without taking the tension off the middle bolt. Made the timing chain too tight causing it not to start. Good luck!

On the carbed 4 strokes, twist the throttle 3 times when it’s cold before you start it. I’m not sure if you knew that trick or not. It squirts some fuel into the head and always helped cold starting on my 04 CRF250.
