Which side is the rear axle nut on your bike? I've always tightened it from the chain side. I suppose slipping the axle in from the right is just what I've always done.Like tieing my right shoe first.

But is there a right and incorrect way?

Easiest way is to look at pictures of the bikes when the manufacturers release them. The nut is normally on the right side.

Usually its on the right side(caliper side). Should be following what the mfg intended - not what youve always done.

Pro Circuit used to have the nut on the chain side/opposite around 98 era on the KX's. I have always put it on the right side or where they were originally.

Honestly, don’t believe nut side matters... Have seen and owned Flat Track Bikes that have just a axle and a nut on each side... That being said I still normally install Mx bikes on the Right.

It makes no difference. More than likely they're on the right side because most people are right handed. The front axle nut is also on the right side when looking at the bike (so opposite the back). Of course the front matters because the axle won't fit the other way around.
