I know I’ve seen Keefer say that it’s always better to start with raising your bar with mounts instead of getting higher rise handle bars. Where can you get 1 1/8 bar mounts that are taller than stock? I don’t see any companies that make them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I want to try taller mounts before I go with taller bars.

Are those any taller than stock mounts? My bike is a 2019 yz250f.

Remember that raising your handlebars will shorten the reach, since the top of your triple clamp is angled rearwards.
I always used to run my clamps in the forward position to get more reach; this also raises them a little. Try it and see if you like it.

Ride engineering makes cheap little bar mount spacers that go under your existing mounts in different thicknesses. That’s a good start.

Yeah that's a really good point. I'll give it a try.

Oh okay nice, I didn't know they made those. I will check them out!

My bike is a 2019 yz250f. I'm not sure how much taller I need to go. I would like to start on the smaller end.

Our bar mounts include a 5mm spacer that you can run on top of the clamps for +5mm over stock height, or under the clamps for stock bar height. You "can" add a spacer to the stock mounts, but it's meant to be a set length so the rubber cones get a consistent amount of squish (that's why there's a shoulder on the bolt/stud).

To properly run a spacer, you need a longer bolt, which is fine, but then you have to pay attention to how much you're tightening the nut to get the right rubber cone compression. This comes at a much lower torque than what you'd use if you had a shoulder on the bolt, so it is more likely to come loose. That's OK, but you need to keep an eye on it.

Of course if you want a much higher rise, then that's a whole different story. If you're just looking for a little, then our mounts work well, or you can just run a taller bend bar and use the stock mounts.

FYI, the Outlaw Racing risers on Amazon/Ebay are heavy AF! I bought a set, took one out of the package, then threw them in a box of old parts and bought a set of high bars.

Okay awesome thanks for the info. I may give those bar mounts out.

Side note to a fellow rider, High handlebars and/or bar risers affect your front end traction via body positioning. They make you lean back more than the other (lower) bars without noticing it. When you switch back after a while you will realize the effects. You do you tho.

^ Another reason I prefer the forward mounts instead of the "high" option.

I’m 6’1 and run Carmichael bend and Pro tapers on a KTM, definitely agree taller bars have a huge effect on front end handling. With the shorter bars I can distribute my weight down towards the bike better, with the taller bars you push down and forward on the front end. Another good tip is to angle your bars in line with the fork offset, and then just a hair back.

I just tried going 5mm taller on the bar mounts via the Luxon handlebar holders. It completely messed up the feel of my bike. Felt like less leverage and more separation from my arms to the front wheel
