Guys,

Curious at what point/hours on your rear and front tires you decide they are done?

I think I'm a 12ish hours on a rear, 25ish hours on a front guy. These #s are based on Dunlop MX33 tires most recently, front and rear, running them on a 450F riding Colorado mountain singletrack and local MX tracks which tend to be hard clay/blue groove. And these #s seem consistent to my past recollections of tire life in various applications.

I've also been trying out Bridgestone BattleCross X40 tires lately and have been really liking the performance, but also the super longevity. This said, I'm running X40s on a 250F, which is lower stress than the 450F.

For me, it's performance first (for safety AND fun), then longevity. But if the BEST performing tires wears poorly, then I am interested in the next highest performing tire that wear OK.

Anyhoo ... wanted to talk some tires and longevity with real users.

I would say I’m at about 8-10 rear and 15-20 front. Mx33’s, usually kinda loamy tracks, little hard pack mixed in here and there

you guys must have money to burn if you're changing tires at 20 hours. I just changed my front tire at 60 hours, and my rear is a kenda washougal 2 and it has about 40 on it and needs to get flipped. I ride only clay, but I rip it deep every 2 weeks, so id say half my riding is deep loam, and the other half is hard pack. I don't race, but all the money I spend let my self spend on my bike goes straight to top ends and maintenance other than tires.

I’ve just learned over the years that tires are not the place to skimp. If I want to feel comfortable and be able to push a bit, I need to know it’s not gonna spit me off unexpectedly

I run 2 sets of wheels; 1 set with “race day tyres” that I only race with, the other set is my “practise day tyres” that cop most of the hours… usually 12-15. When my practise tyres are done, race day tyres become practise tyres and a fresh set become my race day tyres.

I get about 15 on a rear before I flip it. Then another 15 and it's done. Front tire lasts the same 30 hours. Vet Intermediate riding a lot of different dirt. Dunlop MX33s and Pirelli MX32 MS usually.

Put 60 hours on my 350 just about ready for my 3rd set. Get about 20 hours from a set. Usually do the front and rear together. The front is usually in plenty good shape still but I like having both tires fresh at the same time. The take offs go on my woods bike.

Been running the mx53 front 33 rear. Like this combo a lot. The 53 front is awesome under heavy braking, tread pattern really bites the ground.

My 450 has done just over 50 hours and I have changed 5 rears and 3 fronts, usually flip them and go a few hours more

What terrain type are you riding? Seems like the 53F with the 33 rear is becoming popular.

The track I ride is loamy and soft to start the day and ends up being pretty hard pack by the afternoon. The only time I feel like the 53 might not perform as well is the first 15 minutes when the track is super fresh. Don’t feel like it has the same traction on corner entry through the mid point. But after some lines are ridden in and it dries out slightly it’s really good. And like I said the bite it gets when braking hard is tough to beat.

I just checked my notes and it’s actually 10 hours on the rear and 18 on the front. I didn’t realize I was blowing through them so fast. My wife is right….

For MX33s ive ran 3-5 hours on a rear.
MX53, last one was like 9 hours or so before it was roached.
Starcross 5s Medium rears last me about 8-10 hours before I start bitching
All my fronts go as soon as I get a skating feeling, which is around 10-12 hours.

Im super particular about my feel. Adjusting pressures mid-day. Sometimes twice if needed. For the money, good tires are the best performance upgrade.

So many variables in this question. My kids and I only race MX in Pennsylvania. Tracks start off deep and loamy, many days by day end they get deep ruts and hard pack on straights. A mid soft tire rear wont last more than 15 hours but a mid hard could last up to 25-30 hours. My sons KTM 85 stock rear tire was trash after 15-18 hours, but the front is still in great condition. My Kawi 450 would destroy soft compound tires, but the traction was great, the mid hard tires held up, but where I noticed a big difference was hard braking. Mid soft would dig in nicely, but hard tires would skid a lot on hard pack. My 350 does really well on stock Dunlop MX33s.

I like the Dunlop MX33s and the Pirelli mid softs, but yes, you will go through tires if you are on hard pack tracks with mid soft tires.

Im mostly about rim scrub. I use starcross as well. I find as the tire ages the need for higher pressure. 10 hours and the fronts not enjoyable anymore on harder surfaces.

Pirellis Mx extra mid soft - best front end grip I’ve ever felt and wearing great for me.

Should try them. I ran the mx32 mid softs all season and like the extras even more so far.

Interesting, the extra is supposed to be a longer lasting tire too, is that correct still?

Seems that way to me so far. I was shocked to like it better. The rear doesn’t feel like it has as much lean angle grip but straight line is great. Front is great everywhere so far.
