Are KX85s generally a noisy engine?

Just bought my lad a new KX85 and within the first hours run time I noticed it was very tappy top end, sounds a little bit like piston slap.
I’ve phoned the dealers this morning and they told me they’ve had a few complaints with the small KXs and they’re just noisy engines. They had a look anyway just to be sure but have told me it’s perfectly normal for a Kawasaki. Can anyone confirm this?

Yep, some have rattly power valves. Perfectly normal and not really connected with ear from what I have seen as even new bikes have it. Some are just noisier than others..........

Thanks Tracktor. Is there a fix for it or is it something I just have to learn to live with?

Buy some ear plugs or a different bike? Seriously if there is a fix I don't know about it. You can search around and see if anyone ever find the root cause but from my experience they just are........We tried them but switched to KTM so I just work on a friend's bikes occasionally.........

It was the only 85 my son felt comfortable on so no option for me. They can’t be more unreliable than the ktm 50s and 65s we’ve ran up to now, it definitely seems better put together...apart from the rattle Laughing

For me the ktm 50 and 65 were WAY more reliable, hopefully you have much better luck than me

We run 15 kx85s and yes, the rattle like hell, especially at low rpm when cold. Never had an issue with the motors though. We freshen them up every 20 hrs and the pistons alway look pretty good.
