Any harm in putting an engine case away for a few years?

I really don't think there is any problem with this, but I have a bike project that I know I won't be able to start for a while, but I do want to break it down, clean it, and put it away clean. Would there be any adverse effects of removing bearings and all and letting the case sit a few years in a box in the garage? Similarly, it has 1 really leaky fork, any harm in draining the fluid from that and letting it sit, if I intend to change the bushings and seals at a later date? 2007 Honda CR250

I wouldn’t think so... bare cases sit on manufacturer’s shelves for long periods all the time...

Get some gallon-size ziplock bags, spray a little bit of penetrating lube all over the parts, and then seal them in the bag. No problemo.

Nah it will be fine. It will be dusty obviously. I suppose you could wrap them in a garbage bag first.

I personally would lubricate all parts and then saran wrap them to lock in the oil. You could saran wrap then put it in a Ziploc aswell. Big thing is to find a long lasting lubricant and then seal out all the moisture and humidity.

Nop no problem. Had a 07 cr250 stored for 5 years. Put some fresh gas in it and kicked it. Start on the first kick. Let it dle for 10 mintes and next day i was on the track with the bike.

It's a honda you know. Wink
