Another CRF to CR fork thread

Edited Date/Time 9/27/2021 10:51am
So yeah, I got some questions about putting CRF fork on my CR 125

I'm basically looking at a set of fork that fit a 13-16 CRF. From what I can tell, they don't fit in the stock CR triple clamp. Am I right?

What are the fork diameter of the clamping area of each gen of CRF? 09-12, 13-16, 17-20, 21-... Are they all the same size? What are the true measurements bottom and top? (Mainly interested in 13-16)

I believe my CR is 53 top and 58 bottom. Is this also right?

Thanks

I don’t have the numbers you’re looking for but I used 2015 crf forks and clamps with the correct cr bearing pressed on steerer.

I would have done the same, but sadly for me, I have a HPSD mount that wouldn't work with OEM bottom clamp that have the little support for the HPSD on recent bike. I think it would be in the way.

Or maybe I could cut and sand it off? 🤔

Do you know if the offset is similar from the stock clamp and the one you used?

Bearing seems to be the same on the 125 and 15 450, is it not? Part number is the same, no?

Or maybe the new 21 triple clamp would fit? Bearing are the same as the 125 and it doesn't have the HPSD support, plus I already wanted to put the new front fender and front number plate.

I think I'm going to take the measurements on a 21 for the fork diameter. If they are the same as older CRF that might be a good option.

Is the stem a standard length on Honda?

Sorry for the many questions 🤪

I got some 22mm offset aftermarket Neken crf clamps. For some reason, a few years in there the crf used a different lower stem bearing but then they switched back to the same bearing as the cr.

Ok so I've almost answered my questions. here is some info and dimension I've gathered:

(Note: I'm pretty confident all this data is accurate, but please verify on your side before purchasing/swapping components)

CR 125 (04-07) CRF 250 (04-09)
CR 250 (04-07) CRF 450 (04-07)

Top : 53mm
Bottom : 58.3mm

CRF 450 (09-12) (13-16) (17-20) (21-...)
CRF 250 (10-13) (14-17) (18-21)

Top : 53.8mm
Bottom : 59.2mm

CRF 450 (09-12) and CRF 250 (10-13) steering stem bearing are odds and will only fit those year model. Triple clamp from these years won't be bolt on swap unless putting proper bearing.

Basically every other MX/X model from Honda use the same steering bearing since 1990.

Now what I'm missing is the actual stem length. It is harder to get the info and know how many different length there is (if there is multiple?) Since the stem itself doesn't have its own part number. Maybe I'll need help from a company that makes aftermarket triple clamp. Maybe Luxon could help, I know they are on here and pretty helpful. I have taken some external measurements on my 125 and on a 20 and 21 450 and the height of the clamp is pretty similar. I would only like a confirmation.

Right now, my idea of having 21 triple clamp (if stem length is confirmed) on my 125 would enable me to have pretty much any recent OEM size Honda fork. It would also let me mount my HPSD with the MX Bonz bracket since there would be no lower mount like on previous OEM clamp. It would also make it pretty easy to run the most recent front fender and number plate.

Hope this info will also be helpful for someone else.

I have a set of a-kit triple clamps off a 2008 Crf at work.
I Will measure them tomorrow and Will update here but I am quite certain those would allow you to use any newer forks on your CR. A-kits are 49mm showa’s. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out they are the same size as stock 2018+ Crf showa.

I believe Honda steering stems have been the same since at least 2000, possibly longer, and fit through the new 2021 450. I'm running a set of 2013 450 triple clamps on our 2003 CR125 without any issue (it has 2012 450 forks as well).

i have 2012 kyb 48mm crf450 forks triple clamps and stem on a shelf if youre interested. all you would have todo is swap the cr stem into the triple clamps and they bolt right on

All clamps work in cr125-250 after 2002
If you take fork showa 47 or kyb 46 cr crf carb model
you need carb triple clamps small holes after 2009 450 2010 250 and you need the new bigger forks showa 48-49 or kyb 48
Lower bearing in 450 2009-12 and 250 2010-13 need replace (is little lower but works )
other problem fork from 450 2002-2008 showa 47 and 2009-2015 kyb 48 and 250 showa 48-49 2010-2015 is about 10mm lower to stock cr after 2016 crf is 5mm lower
Offsets all cr 24mm
crf 2002-2007 24mm
crf250 2008-2009 crf450 2008 22mm offset
crf450 2010-2016 crf250 2010-2017 20mm offset
Last crf 22mm offset
older showa kit a upper clam is 56mm 2mm bigger to stock efi models lower is the same

Hey guys, I am going to bump this thread as I am looking to do something similar. I have a 2000 CR125 and I am looking to take the entire front end off of a 10-12 CRF250r that I have sitting in my garage. According to All Balls I am able to get bearings for the triple clamps, but I want to make sure they are going to work. Anyone know if its possible. I have the entire front end, triple clamps, forks, wheel etc etc to swap over.

Yes, but as I think you know, you will have to swap both bearing to the other parts number (91015-KZ4-701) that is found on every Honda MX bike since 1990 because you have the odd bearing that are found only on the 09-16 450cc and 10-17 250cc.

After that you should be all set to do the swap.

Yeah I have noticed that they are different which is odd. But All Balls has a fork conversion chart I was using and I plan to go with their bearings. I believe the bearings they are saying work are the same or similar as the part number you listed above. I knew all of that would need to be swapped, was just making sure the actual triple clamps would work and such, offset is a little different but it seems to be better for the 125 anyways.

A bit slow in the head here, but what triple clamp is the best to use then? I'm mounting Ohlins forks for a 2015 CRF on my 2006 CR125...

Cheers
