Alpine A1 vs A4 roost protector?

Hey lookin at these and dont know if its worth getting the A4. It is the longest backplate ive ever seen and although good do most people find it comfortable? If people like it and think its worth it I will pick the A4 as I dont want regrets but just seeing what most people use...

I have the A1 and it’s light and tucks away nicely. Very good under jersey protector

I went for the A-4 because of the (better) protection on the side (ribs, kidneys, etc...) and I`m super happy with it!
Otherwise they are both pretty similar.

Otherwise they are both pretty similar.
Does the back plate ever rub down on the seat? or in your pants?
any critiques?

I tried the A1 and have quite a bit of hours on my A4. I wanted some spine protection from getting hit from behind. The A1 was shorter than I wanted in the back. My A4 bottoms out at a level above the seat and I’ve never had an issue with hanging up in the waistband etc. Just what I wanted and my Atlas neckbrace slides down into with no straps.

Everyone's torso is a little different. Be careful of the longer back plates if you have a shorter torso. I have an older protector that's made to protect your spine and it hangs really low. It pushes my pants down and annoys the crap out of me. I don't wear it anymore, so I'm in the market for a new chest protector.

I looked at both of these closely.

Ordered and tried on the A-4 and Leatt 4.5 back to back. The shoulder adjustments on the A-4 let you adjust how high the back plate sits on you can move it up. If you have a short torso it might not be enough. However, the A-4 felt much cheaper(but lighter) than I thought it would be. I went with the leatt 4.5. To me, the A-4 is 40 bucks more for the same style of coverage but less quality protection. No problems with overheating or rubbing so far.

A-4 and A-1 is rated at "level 1" protection in the back and level 1 in the front.
Leatt has level 2 both front and back.

Don't quote me on that but i understand the difference is tested ability to withstand certain impacts in addition to just roost.
