Air compressor for soda blaster

Probably not ideal but I used one of the 10gal oil ones from HF when I framed my yz. It worked pretty decent, you can blast near continuously at around 80 psi which was usually enough for all but the worst of it.

I think if I was blasting regularly I would fry the motor on the compressor as it did get quite hot.

But for a budget restoration it worked well and I would buy again.

That should be good, I was able to blast my entire engine, frame, calipers, hubs, etc with my little guy. It wont be as fast, but it works.

I just used the harbor freight soda, I think its a little cheaper per lb but not sure. In hindsight what I wish I had was a blasting cabinet so I didnt waste media and get soda in my hair everytime I blasted. It would have paid for itself in lost media by now.

this prolly wont help but I have a little box, I only do small parts, calipers, masters, cases etc however I don't use soda in it, just glass bead and I blast at 50 psi and I use a 150 litre tank (think that works out bout 35 gallon) and its 14 cfm, it works but If I could buy again, id defo go with a bigger tank,

You can blast with most any compressor if you are willing to go slow, allow it to catch up, and not do super long runs of blasting. Most smaller compressors are not made for that sort of utilization and you will eventually burn them out if you are just running full bore for 20 minutes without letting it shut off.

You also want to use soda that is meant for blasting, like the stuff from HF as mentioned. Regular baking soda will clump up, clog, pain in the arse.

i turned my blast cabinet into a wet blast cabinet, these blasters dont need the compressor recommended i think 4cfm at 90 psi is the lowest i would go

its the harbor freight blaster, i drilled a hole in the bottom and ran some pvc pipe to a trash can full of water and some soda mix, i put a small pump form harbor freight in the trash can with a piece of garden hose. I build a blast gun out of a brass slitter with little hose clamps on the hoses and then cut a small peice of plastic and glued it to the end as a tip

you just put the air on one side of the splitter and the water slurry on the other.

I blasted a couple frames last week with a harbor freight pressure blaster.I tried sand, crushed glass.My compressor makes 17.5 cfm at 90,,,it's a american made Emglo/Jenny,,,80 gl tank. It ran nearly continuous and took about 1.5 hours each frame. I think if you have less,,it's better to sand the frame with a flap wheel everywhere you can and then use the tiny compressor for places you couldn't reach.

Any tank will do it. It just the smaller the tank the shorter the time you have, the more often you will have to stop and wait on the compressor to catch up. I have a plasma cutter on a small 10 gallon tank. I can cut for about 6-8 seconds before I have to stop and wait on the compressor. And I blow a shop fan on the motor to try to keep it cool.

I would avoid Ingersol Rand (IR) compressors. I bought the 80gal, single stage one from Lowes and had it fail within the same week. After some research, I found that a lot of people just buy the Husky compressors for their warranty.
