Can anybody help me, what year did the YZ125 start Aluminium frames please? I have a bike with no numbers, and the only number on the engine is 33044533. I need to buy engine parts but I have no idea what year it is? The guy who owns it says it's 2004 but I need to be sure before I buy a crank etc... But with no numbers what do I do?

Thanks so much!

2005 got the alloy frame
Great, so I know this bike is 2004 or below... How can I find what year please? Are there any features on the engine I can go by? The cranks are sold 2001-2004 but what if it's pre 2001? Sad

Look at the engine there should be a serial number on the crank case then cross reference that on google , also look up near the steering stem there should be a vin somewhere...

The only number anywhere on the crank case is 33044533. That's next to the kick start. I can't see any other numbers under the engine or around it.

The vin is missing because this bike was stolen then recovered, but they'd already scratched the VIN off.
I told the guy who owns it he should have written it down when he bought the bike but, I guess you learn from your mistakes lol.

Anyway... There is the number I stated on the crank case, but that's it... Are there any other ways I can get a pretty good guess at what year the engine is at least by features or anything? I just need to makw sure I buy the right crank so really I just need to know the year of the engine.

Thanks everyone Smile

Ahh!! I think I've found it,
next to the gear leaver is 4XM00 which THIS site says is 1997.
Would any of you agree?

Even with the serial number ground off the police use a acid process to see the metals molecular stamp.

Not in this case, they didn't want to know and just asked him to look at it, so he went to the station, looked and said it was his and they let him take it home. But they'd blown it up and taken most of it apart anyway.

But anyway, what do you think is the engine (4XM00) 1997?

I think that is from a plate thats riveted down on the side? You need the numbers stamped on the top clutch side if memory serves

Hmm those are 33044533 but that brings nothing up on any site I've found?

And the 4XM00 is next to the gear leaver stamped into the casing. There is also Y-1 if that means anything?

I am also confused because on the bottom of the swing arm is 4SS-00 which on that website is 1996. But that could be because the seing arm was changed at some point?

If you measure the piston it could help.

Thanks!
I measured the piston to see what one to order and it's a 141cc so it's been bored into a 144 so would the pin still be the same or would that be different also?

I would say the pins would still be the same as it would mean using different size small end bearing or conrod.

Right, it's 15mm so it's a '97 engine then! Smile
