I know the cylinders changed in 99 as did the power valve, but has anyone been able to put a 99+ cylinder and power valve on a 96-98 YZ250? And if so, was it worth it to have more pipe options etc.?

Are 98 YZ250 pipes hard to come by?
Not necessarily. But no raw pipes for them and a few other little things. I also have some 99+ cylinders laying around and pipes to fit with it.
Not a big deal if it isn’t possible, I was just curious.

There are a few in my area, but guys want way too much for them. We were lucky enough to find this one from a friend and was only $500. Good shape and I don’t know if the motor has ever really been apart.

It’s crazy how much people want for 20 year old bikes. No way I’m spending more than $1500 for something older than 02

The 99 engine was a complete new model change. Pretty sure there is no hope of bolting a 99+ cylinder to a 98 and older bottom end. Wasn't the bore & stroke even different?

I'm not quite sure. I wouldn't be surprised though. Maybe I'll look for a 99-01 YZ motor to drop in when this one goes.
