I am looking for a reduced power map "250" like power for slippery indoor stuff. Even the hard pack option on the app is still just to much.. Or can anyone give me an idea how much power gets pulled for each degree of timing??

The mapping is definitely where to start (see below post ... sorry, I missed it here).

For this situation I'd also try a 1 or 2 tooth larger counter sprockets to see if you like the general feel and go from there. Generally 1 tooth always does it for me AND it stretches the power delivery out. Win-win.

Crazy idea I've never tried:
Could you fill the airbox with a block(s) of foam to choke the bike up and see if that takes the edge off?

The last 2 tricks I use to reduce the bike's responsiveness are:
(1) play with throttle fleeplay - takes 5 seconds. I often do this toward the end of the day as I get sloppier with throttle control.
(2) consider a slower throttle pull from G2 Ergo (if they still make them)

Any tips on mapping?

Is there a specific track feature or obstacle the your bike is unmanageable on? How much throttle and what rpm are you around when you get overwhelmed?

Sorry - missed this in my original post.

I really haven't mastered the Power Tuner app. I tried like 15 maps and liked the Magic Map best for all types of riding (mx, tight mountain trails, etc.).

My next experiment here would be the "GC - good control" map on Yamaha's site.

Just looking to mimic 250 power at the low and mid range - smooth and linear

Here are the maps I've had the best luck with on the 2020 YZ450F so far. Loading these into your tuner and playing with these to keep the "easy to ride" character powerband but dial things down may = ideal solution. I REPEAT: USE AS STARTING POINT, THEN DIAL DOWN.

For ref, I got them on Yamaha's Power Tuner site at:
https://www.yamahamotorsports.com/motocross/pages/yamaha-power-tuner-sm…

Honestly it sounds like you want a 250F. There are MANY benefits to the 250F over the 450F, especially for the indoor stuff. I only ride my 250F on tight trails now. 10000000% more fun.

Both of those maps look like they would add power!

A good amount, I liked it on hard pack.
